HUGE project, easy points...find me a cute house for sale?
I need to find a cute home for sale. I don't care where it's at, as long as it's in the USA and I can print off a flyer to turn it in. This is just the first part of the project, but I don't know where to look! Or even how. PRICE doesn't matter, but I don't want a mansion. Just a chic little cottage...maybe something like this:

Shabby chic cottage designer kitchen
I need some idea's for making a headboard. My room is Shabby Chic/Cottage style?
Well I recently made one for my daughter that turned out really cool, and could be done certain ways to make it look really neat. Take a single 4 x 8 sheet of plywood and cut it at the 5 foot length into a 5 x 4 piece and a 3 x 4 piece. On eht larger piece you can paint or stain it to match the look you like. On the the smaller piece you will put padidng and fabric. The way to connect them is to drill holes through both pieces on the smaller piece and on the side you will cover you hammer in these flat nut/washer things. I never remember what they are called, but they are flat on one side with little wdges on the outer edge that dig into the wood. The center of them has a sleeve that fits into the hole and is threaded on the inside. What happens is you hammer that into the wood, and when you are ready to connect the two pieces you put the bolts through the back side of the larger piece of wood, and tighten it up.
Anyway on the smaller piece of wood you put your padding and fabric and that way you can have a comfortable backrest. Then to hang it on the wall you use a flush style mounting that is easy to use and can hold a lot of weight. For the edges you use a simple molding in order to cover the edge of the wood. It is a day project (unless you stain) and makes a world of difference.

Well, see, the cliffnote version: The baker guy runs out of supplies because he keeps giving all his baked goods away. Even though he has nothing, he invites this “shabby man” to stay at his cottage. “Shabby Man” grants the baking guy a wish. The baker makes cookies all day long and turns a profit while the people who tossed the “shabby man” out, upon finding out that he's a wish-granter, invite him over and get boned when it comes to wish time. Moral: Be nice.

The book is just like her blog and store – full of great ideas!! AJ and Michael simply amaze me with their creativity. They take things that most people would throw away, and with a simple coat of paint, maybe an alteration here or there, a little ingenuity, (and some sandpaper) they create an updated new treasure for your home. In this day of “going green” they are the ultimate example for all of us to follow.
If you are into primitive, cottage or shabby chic decorating, this book will be an inspiration to you. If you are a shop-owner like I am, it will be even more. AJ is not shy about sharing display ideas, I have no doubt that you will get enough ideas to pay for the book many times over.
Anyone who is a crafter or do-it-yourselfer will appreciate the many pictures and simple tips she shares. I'm sure that you will be looking at something AJ has refurbished and realize that you have something laying around the house or shop that you can do in a similar manner. Think of the money you could save by refurbishing old junk you have laying around, or that you can find cheap at yard sales or flea markets! Save money and save the landfills, a win-win situation!
Even if you are a regular reader of her blog, you will appreciate being able to see all of these pictures in one place. There have been many times that I have thought of something that I had seen on the blog in the past, and wanted to see again. I would spend a good bit of time searching. Now, with this book, it will be much quicker. There are some pictures in the book that she has featured on the blog, but there are also many that are new to the book. You also will have access to some of her other photo albums, which again is very convenient. Be sure to check out the album on decorating a Christmas tree. Her simple, step by step instructions will give you many ideas for your own tree.
I really do think that this book will be a help to you whether you are an accomplished crafter, or even if you are a bit challenged in that department! I would also encourage you to buy some of her other ebooks. I have bought some in the past, and plan to buy more. AJ is very generous on her blog with free tips, and offers even more tips for a very reasonable price in her other books. They are very easy to understand, with helpful pictures.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In the case of this book, the pictures are worth a thousand ideas!!
I just wish I lived close enough to visit her shop!!

I know what you are going throw. What I did was
Get new bedding
new pillow's
paint for the room
I got ride of some furniture that I didn't need
new cert ins
and a new lite
(And a laptop)-(that does not have anything to do with the room lol)
And added some new touches to the room

eeeks. I am an Interior Decorator and I often have clients like you and your husband who have tastes vastly different from one another.
To make your house a little more cohesive, I would shy away from totally different "his" and "her" style rooms and mix it up a bit.
You can add some Shabby Chic details to bring in your taste in the way of accessories or changing out a piece of furniture here and there. Take a good look at what you already have and want to keep in the room(s). To make this transition successful you have to follow a couple of rules. To meld the two styles, you have to repeat COLOR, PATTERNS, SHAPES and THEMES.
So, it the sofa is on the square side, get a squareish side chair and cover it with a shabby chic fabric. If the sofa is black or brown or tan, copy those colors in your shabby chic fabrics or accessories. Repeat your shabby chic fabric in more than one place in the room to reinforce it's presence. No color to match what you want to put in the room? Paint one wall and you will see a huge difference in the "acceptance" of what you load into the room.
Are there any collections in the room? Let's say there is a collection of glass vases. Add a super shabby chic vase in the collection. If there is a bar set up in the room, add some vintage accessories to blend in with the metal edgy ones. You can put a lamp shade on an existing lamp to change the mood of the lamp. Just repeat colors and it will instantly make the room look cohesive. Got some modern wall art? Flank it with shabby chic sconces. Not much color in the room? go and put a vintage rug under the coffee table and you will instantly have something to match all of your shabby chic things to. Just remember to repeat colors and fabrics and shapes or you will have nothing but chaos.
Add things slowly. Your eye will tell you right away if it is not right. Experiment. Take your shabby chic things and place them around the room and see how they look. Or, do what I do and take the trusty credit card and have at it in a big shopping spree. Pick out a bunch of things you think will go in the room. Take them all home and play with their placement. Keep what you like and return all of the rest. Check return policies when shopping in this fashion. Sometimes what you see in the store looks horrible once you get it home and the thing you were not crazy about in the store is a knock out in your home. Bend the rules.
These types of little influences will take the hard edge off of your hard-edge masculine rooms and it will create your own "Urban Chic" look.

Oh, you know what you are doing! Experimenting…so I tried to “bleach” a coffee table once and I used this oil based paint in a grayish white. I was thinking “cottage shabby chic” — I didn't know I was suppose to rub the paint off and it came out so bleeping ugly…of course I never corrected it (I was exhausted from trying to think of ways to fix it) and I lived with it for 3 yrs. before I finally bought a marble topped 50's era table that goes with everything off of craigs list to replace the big “white elephant in the room”. I tell people it was an “experiment”..HA! Sure it was.
