This is actually a mini series called the 10th Kingdom, although I class it as a movie and it is my absolute favourite. Your description was very good of it too. I guessed straight away! If you are looking to watch it again it's on living tv or uktv gold now and again on English television if you live in England. If not it is available to buy on VHS and DVD.

Chick Corea Gary Burton Duet - mirror mirror
How can I boost my self-confidence and feel pretty?
Every time I go to the mall or a store or someplace I don't feel pretty. All I ever wear is a tshirt jeans and flip flops. I never really try to put any effort into the way I look. I have some cute clothes but they are for church I don't want to wear church clothes when I'm going out. I don't really have that much self confidence. When I look in the mirror I never really like what I see and I'm way too cheap to go shopping for myself. I just want to look simple but chic you know like the girls on America's Next Top Model.
Your self-esteem is directly linked to how you take care of yourself. If you don't have high self esteem, it's easy to let yourself go, which just makes the problem worse. Start with the simple things (there's a good chance you do these things already, but if not, do them religiously). Brush your teeth two or three times a day, floss, and use mouth wash. Wash your face every morning and at night, and apply a oil free sun screen. Eat well, make sure you get your recommended amounts of fruits, veggies and lean protein, and cut back on high fat foods. Be sure to do about 30 minutes of cardio at least 4 times a week. Go to your doctor for general checkups once a year and see your dentist every 6 months. I know it sounds pretty basic, but it's the first steps to building your self esteem. Here's some good info on that:
Most of the models you see have a team of people to make them look that way, and their job is to look good. If you don't put any effort into the way you look, it makes sense that you don't like the way you look. When I wake up in the morning I look like a nightmare, and there are very few women who love the way they look in the morning. Here are some shots of celebrities without make up.
If you can buy clothes for yourself for church, why not wear them out, or buy some clothes you like for going out? There's no rule that says church clothes are ONLY for church, or that you can only look good while at church. It's important not to spend more than you make, but it's also important to spend a little money on yourself. If you already have clothes, you must have bought them, so why not make it a rule to only buy clothes that you love, and that make you feel amazing. There's nothing wrong with t-shirts and jeans, but make sure that whatever clothes you buy are comfortable, flattering, and make you feel good while you're wearing them.
OK, the one comment I have is that the first sentence is a little confusing. I know in this type of story , clothes are important, but could you describe Mellisa's looks/personality instead. For example : Mellisa flicked her blonde hair, while examining her reflection in the full length mirror. Adding a little lip gloss, she looked at her self critically, and nodded in satisfaction. Her clothes (Describe them), fitted her slender frame perfectly.
Anyhow, you could have Mellisa going to school (now me personally, wouldn't like the character Mellisa, to me she would be the 'villain' and either the beta or the one low down in the clique would get the happily ever after), seeing her boy friend and their being a new boy at school.
Must agree with Loke. Oh and I got my magic wand back from Neverland Repairs. Took forever, but then, forever is an awfully long time. As soon as I'm able, I will go into Starbucks and grant your wishes. Although, from where I stand, a few of them have already come true…hmmm….have you been seeing a fairy godmother behind my back?! You're already creative, gorgeous and if you want something positive to look at, look in the mirror chick. Not to get all worshippy or anything, but *I* totally think you're awesome and aspire to be more like you. Oh and 9/13 – me, 29. Wanna get depressed? How about realizing this is your last year in your 20's.

How about painting it yellow (or orange) and then using a cloth to rub in purple where the crevices are for a shabby chic look.
I would prefer the same method with a gold underlayment then a brown rub but that's not so shabay.
