Shabby Chic. Do you like it or do you think it's a bit 'Emperor's New Clothes'?
You know were you buy old furniture, paint it up white then distress it a bit.? I am tempted because I have got a bit carried away with buying old stuff and doing it up. My latest acquisition is a full set of Walnut bedroom stuff. I quite like the look you get but having trawled through many websites looking for good examples I have noticed a lot of rubbish painted up and passed off as chic. What's your opinion on it?
When I say Walnut I am pretty sure it is a Walnut veneer! I am not trying to claim this stuff is solid walnut. It looks lovely though and I am scared that I could mess this up and ruin a great set of furniture by getting carried away with myself.

I love walnut, don't know if I would know the difference if it is veneer. i probably mainly see veneer and others maybe do too, so few people might be able to see the difference.
If it looks good and natural wood usually does, then just polish it up (as my granny would have said) and use it as it is. If you change your mind and want to paint it later, it is easier to paint it at a later date, than srtip the paint off at a later date. From someone who was involved with stripping the paint off loads of lovely pine furniture after it had been fashionable to paint it years ago!

If we had the political will to do it, we could produce all the energy we (and our political and economic allies) needed through algae-produced biodiesel, thermosolar, and nuclear energy (from uranium that's already been enriched, no less).
What do I really want? Inexpensive, mass-produced fabricators. $2,000 for a clothing fabricator, a body scanner, and some design software and you'd have perfectly-fitting clothing for the rest of your life. Recycling units would take your old clothing and break it up into the component fibers for refabrication. A similar device, using rubber, nylon, and latex, would be used for making custom-fitted shoe soles; throw some vat-grown cowskin into the clothing pattern printer and you'd have a better pair of shoes than 99.9% of people living today. For computer components, there's a silicon-ceramic-metal fabricator that (along with your plastic printer) also supplies most of your your small household items and electronics. Furniture's a different story; a few blocks away there's the neighborhood mega-printer where you can print out metal, plastic, and glass furnishings (your aluminum folding chair used to be Coke cans in Fresh Kills, and you're grateful that the components for your latex or polyurethane mattress were autoclave-sterilized), but wood will become a luxury, something you pass down through generations. Bamboo, however, is a popular alternative; it's attractive, strong, and fast-growing enough that even ardent environmentalists enjoy their cherry-stained bamboo bedroom sets.

hell friggin' no!…don't leave anything plugged in and on if you or anyone else won't be home for two weeks….especially A HEATER!!..AHHHH!!!!…silly silly..i know it sucks wasting the money but its better than having all your stuff go up in flames…is there anyone you know who is reliable and you can trust? maybe they can put the heat on for like 2 days then shut it off….and so on..yea a pain in the a ss but….the other option is not..SAFE!
