shabby chic modern
I have an older night stand I want to refinish...?
It's older, lighter 60's style. It has lots of chip and scratches on it. I am thinking of ways to refinish it. I have thought about covering it with fabric or even decoupage...any one have any different and modern or shabby-chic ideas?
I am also trying to avoid sanding or stripping it, thanks.
This technique is alot like decoupage but on a larger scale and is more durable. You will need a gallon of Polyacrylic and a roll of brown paper (the kind you wrap packages in). WEAR GLOVES AND WORK ON A DROP CLOTHE!! Mix the gallon of polyacrylic with 1 part water in a disposable tub. Tear the paper into pieces with rough sides all around. The paper can be in large pieces or small ones; for a dresser I would probably go with like 5x5 sheets. Dip paper in acrylic mixture and wad up and sqeeze out excess and apply to the dresser, smoothing out bubbles, keep repeating this process, slightly overlapping pieces until completely covered. It will take a little time, but the affect is beautiful. It will give it kind of an old world antique look. I did a whole room this way and it is beautiful! Oh, you can also use this with paint, like lay the paper on the main body of the dresser and then paint the drawers. Get creative and make it a true original. Good luck!

Any good Birthday gift Ideas for my sister-in-law?
My brother just got married, and i dont really know my sister in law well enough yet to feel confident in getting her a birthday gift. She is into just about the opposite of everything i am into. Its her first birthday as my sister in law and she is a very sweet girl, i want to get her something nice to show i care, but dont want it to be weird or lame.
She is European, if that helps?, she has a very modern style to her, i am more shabby chic-vintage and she is very contemporary modern. she loves to decorate with black and white and likes animal prints.

I love it! I really really really really (yea, really) LOVE the pink corduroy! And the china and mismatched silver, LOVE vintage. I would call your tablescape (yea, that's a word, or at least should be) shabby chic with a modern twist, but that sounds completely contradictory…..
