Shabby Chic. Do you like it or do you think it's a bit 'Emperor's New Clothes'?
You know were you buy old furniture, paint it up white then distress it a bit.? I am tempted because I have got a bit carried away with buying old stuff and doing it up. My latest acquisition is a full set of Walnut bedroom stuff. I quite like the look you get but having trawled through many websites looking for good examples I have noticed a lot of rubbish painted up and passed off as chic. What's your opinion on it?
When I say Walnut I am pretty sure it is a Walnut veneer! I am not trying to claim this stuff is solid walnut. It looks lovely though and I am scared that I could mess this up and ruin a great set of furniture by getting carried away with myself.
Haz, Mormon blogs? Excellent! I used to just look at the pics and walk away. I have a whole new interest. Expect me to convert some time next week.
I love walnut, don't know if I would know the difference if it is veneer. i probably mainly see veneer and others maybe do too, so few people might be able to see the difference.
If it looks good and natural wood usually does, then just polish it up (as my granny would have said) and use it as it is. If you change your mind and want to paint it later, it is easier to paint it at a later date, than srtip the paint off at a later date. From someone who was involved with stripping the paint off loads of lovely pine furniture after it had been fashionable to paint it years ago!
