Okay so I am getting ready to open up a small cupcake shop...my recipes are all ready to go, the loans have been approved, the theme has pretty much been decided ( sleek, clean, WHITE modern furniture- dark cherrywood flooring, shabby chic chandelier lighting, brightly colored walls...very "cute-sy" with a bit of a modern twist) All that is left is a sweet little name for my shop!! shabby chic chandelier Shabby Sheek..(Chic?) Teen Room?
I'm getting my room done with new carpets and getting it painted. My mom and I wanted it to be Shabby Sheek (idk you might spell Sheek "chic" I have no idea....lol). So what should we paint it? And what kind of furniture? I've been looking into mini chandeliers...because I know thats in. I already have white translucent curtains and a white bed frame. But any design suggestions? Thanks!
Shabby Chic is about a vintagey sort of look. Sounds like the chandelier, curtains will work great. Usually furniture it artifically 'aged' and you use vintage type decorations. It's easier to understand by looking at pics than to describe.
I suggest searching shabby chic on line and looking at photos. It's very easy to paint and treat furniture to get the effect, although it does take a little planning and elbow grease, then it's just about picking your decorative items. There are plenty of books on shabby chic as well, you may want to check your local used book store and look at pics before you embark on this project.
Thrift stores, craigslist.com and garage sales are great ways to pick up items for the shabby chic look. When buying furniture at those places, check all drawers and doors to be sure they work well and push the thing a bit to be sure it's sturdy. There's so much great old super sturdy stuff out there it doesn't make sense to buy something that needs to be fixed.
For painting, you'll want to keep it light and airy. No accent wall. Usually some sort of white or very light. You could do a little dry brush of a slightly different color over your original color for an aged look.

I live in Sacramento, California. I'm either interested in locating a hope chest locally, or better yet - online.
I'm not sure of a source that may have a cushioned top other than eBay. However, this is very easy to make. Purchase a used hope chest at a yard sale or flea market. Distress, paint, or stencil it any way you want. Buy some foam cushions at a fabric store or foam outlet. Purchase some fabric you want for the top. Make the cushion top by placing the foam on top of the chest and laying the fabric over the cushion. Nail the fabric to the top of the chest with decorative upholstery nails. Be sure to turn the edges of the fabric under before you nail it to the chest.

In my front room I have a modern light oak cabinet with a matching desk. A modern black three seater recliner and matching chair and a black gloss coffee table. For paint and wallpaper I have white walls with a black wall where my chimney breast is. The back wall is in a white and black damask wallpaper. I'm going to add a bit of vintage french style to my room by using a shabby chic desk chair and a black french chandelier. I was wondering if anyone had any more idea's to incorporate my designs? Websites and links to pictures would be perfect! I really like bright colours such as pink, blue and green, I'm also using a bit of white such as a white lamp.
