I'm hosting a baby shower and I don't know the sex of the baby to be. The mother is very into "shabby chic" decor. How can I incorporate this into the shower? Also some ideas for out of the ordinary invites would be nice. Thanks!!
I too love the Shabby Chic decor. You'll want to use mostly whites and just touches of a pastel color. Maybe lavender. Don't feel like you have to use "baby" stuff. Real decorators don't rely on all that stuff to decorate a fabulous shower. A perfect theme for Shabby Chic would be the Clothes Line Theme. Hang a clothes line up and hang crisp white sheets and white baby clothes. Your centerpieces could be white baskets with white baby items and white or lavender rose petals scattered around. Shabby Chic is all about mixing fancy and comfortable, so add lots of gorgeous white candles, fancy soap dishes with natural soaps, white tablecloths, rose china plates, white cupcakes with a lavender rose on top, and you'll be sure to host a stunning baby shower. Two other themes would be an Angel theme and Little Lamb theme. All white would work for those themes as well. Good luck.

shabby chic dresser shabby chic decor in a wood paneled space?
i'll be renting a mother-in-law suite and the walls are oak wood paneling. i want to add decor to brighten up the space but i'm stumped because painting isn't an option (since i'm only renting for a few months) and i'm unsure about what colors to use. most sites suggest "americana" but i'm not a fan of moose heads and native american prints. i like pastels and the whole "shabby chic" thing (i love quilting). any suggestions?! oh and there is a dresser in the bedroom that is a distressed powder blue color. any ideas that bring that into play would be great. thanks!

I'm not sure of a source that may have a cushioned top other than eBay. However, this is very easy to make. Purchase a used hope chest at a yard sale or flea market. Distress, paint, or stencil it any way you want. Buy some foam cushions at a fabric store or foam outlet. Purchase some fabric you want for the top. Make the cushion top by placing the foam on top of the chest and laying the fabric over the cushion. Nail the fabric to the top of the chest with decorative upholstery nails. Be sure to turn the edges of the fabric under before you nail it to the chest.
