What primer will cover exterior paint crazing/cracks?
Inside our porch, the paint has that crackle effect that Martha Stewart tries to achieve for "shabby chic" purposes, but we want to get rid of it! The old paint has a couple of lead layers, so while we do know that sanding or stripping would be the best approach, we'd rather seal it and repaint to avoid releasing the lead (this is a kid-heavy area). The existing paint is very well-adhered except for the crazing. A contractor told us there is a product that is a leveling primer or some sort of coating material that will smooth out crazing and allow for relatively smooth painting on top, but he couldn't remember the specific product. Does anyone know? Thanks!
Some primers used over concrete block is made to fill in cracks and provide a level surface. You might want to wash the wall first with a solution of TSP, found at hardware and paint stores. Rinse afterwards. It will remove chalking , dust and oils that might interfere with adhesion. Also , applying a thin coating of spackle can do the job, pre priming. Just give it a skim coat but it takes more skill than using the block filler.

Yes you can make a good living if you get on the circuit in the rural south. They are big on crafts and country and shabby chic and every single little town or wide spot in a road has a summer crafts fair and most places have buildings that run all year and if you get into a popular one of those, you can do pretty good.
