How can I redocorate my old nightstand?
It's from the 60's and made of a lighter wood. It has lots of chip and scratches on it. I am thinking of ways to refinish it.I do not want to have to strip it or sand it. I have thought about covering it with fabric or even decoupage...any one have any different and modern or shabby-chic ideas?
i took an old dark wood table, barely sanded it. slapped on some white paint, distressed a bit and then decoupaged made-to-look-old luggage tag stickers ($13 at barnes and noble). i mixed a little stain into the modge podge to give it an older look. it's a piece that i love, only looks better with age, and it's a conversation starter. everyone loves it!
I've got a beautiful hand made quilt hung up on the wall over my bed. I used a curtain rod and those little brass rings to clip over the edge of the quilt without damaging it. It looks beautiful (made by my great-grandma I don't know how many years ago), didn't cost much to hang and will be easy to remove. Hang quilts that you have and look in re-sale shops for inexpensive quilts if you need more. Quilts are very "Americana" by the way. Americana isn't just Indian stuff.
I thought the same thing but I heard somewhere that Nine was originally a Broadway production, I may be wrong but I guess that might explain it. They just wanted to keep the same name.

You might modernize your 'shabby chic' by removing some of the knick-knacks, clearing spaces. Unifying color among the smaller pieces of furniture will modernize a bit, too. Anything you can do to 'de-clutter' will help bring the room closer to neutral. (Look at texture – ruffles, stacks of items, multiple fabrics, lots of colors — all add visual complexity).
The modern furniture can be softened by adding texture or color. Add a soft throw blanket (a solid color from the floral couch) diagonally over the modern couch — making it more welcoming.
Mr. Colbert, For many years you have been keeping the American public aware of the constant threat of the ursine nation, which you should be commended for. However, with all of your attention to the OHL, for which you should be commended, you have, with startling regularity, neglected to give mention to **Canada’s** most nefarious enemy, the most pressing danger to its shores: the woodchuck. This enemy to our great nation, which can be seen here in all of its horror at: has long been a threat to the beaver. The beaver, as I’m sure you well know, is one of Canada’s most endearing national symbols. The beaver tail, which is the subject of thousands of poems, and which one of only two internationally known Canadian food items (poutine being the other), is named after, is beloved to all Canadians. The woodchuck however, lacks the beaver’s glorious tail, and feasts with indifference upon the beaver’s preferred construction material: wood. As such, as a Canadian writing you from our nation’s only computer, which is housed within our nation’s most glorious igloo, and having waited for thirty seven hours outside of this igloo with hopes of writing you, Mr. Colbert, I want to ask you, for the sake of my nation… How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? Please, Mr. Colbert, for the sake of the Canadian national park, which spans more than 99% of this nation, help us find a place for the woodchuck in this fragile eco-system, and tell us how much wood we need to set aside for the wood chuck to chuck when the wood chuck must chuck wood. Thank you.
